eCards are for everyone

Ok, so I am not the most clued up person on technology, but unlike my Granny, I know how to record a film without blowing the DVD player up. I shouldn’t give my poor Gran a hard time, I managed to teach her how to send a text without typing the whole message in capitals (it always seemed like she was shouting at me – “WHEN YOU COME TO VISIT I WILL MAKE FLAPJACKS”)

Over the weekend I taught her how to use e-mail and send e cards. Why? Gran and Grandad have decided to move, not just down the road, or even to a nearby town, they have chosen to go to Australia! Not quite sure how Gran is going to cope with the creepy crawlies over there, she doesn’t like anything with more than four legs. Who can blame her really, the spiders down under look bigger than a dinner plate!

She couldn’t wait to go, but was worried about missing out on everything  at home, I figured that she needed a quick, easy and free way to keep in touch with us. She found sending an e-mail easy but quite boring, that’s why I introduced her to the world of free e cards.

We sat down with a cup of tea, (and yes – you guessed it – flapjacks!) and tried lots of different sites to see which were the best for Gran to use. Quite a few came out on top in our opinion,ecards.co.uk is just one of them, she liked Blue Mountain too, but decided to use ecards.co.uk because it’s free.  She added this site to her ‘favourites’ so it’s always on hand. She seemed impressed by the amount of e cards to choose from and that she could create an address book and reminders for special occasions, no excuse to forget my birthday now!

I can’t believe it has been nearly three months since Gran and Grandad moved, they live in a town called Toogoolawah and are having a great time. Gran and I have been sending each other greeting cards on line. As I found out there doesn’t need to be a reason like a birthday to send one, it is a great way to just say hello.

It seems that Gran has turned into a computer whiz kid! She has shown her new friends in Australia how to use greeting card sites, and is now sending them to her friends back in England. I guess this shows that sending greetings over the internet is something that everyone can try.

I had a late night phone call a couple of days ago, it was Gran who had gotten herself into a flap, “How do I record Coronation Street?”
