Ill-advised marketing is worse than not doing any marketing at all, you have to understand the difference so that you can avoid it at all costs. Guerrillas have to constantly market their service/business to be successful but if they fall into performing ill-advised marketing they are wasting their time and more importantly money as it can be expensive in today’s world.
The main flaw that leads to ill-advised marketing is being impatient, not giving your marketing enough time to run could destroy your marketing attempts and force you to start all over again. The next flaw that people fall into is thinking they know marketing because they have been studying finance and management – marketing is ever evolving so if you want to succeed you have to keep on top and learn the improved tactics.
This could also lead to you believing you know what the prospects want, designing your own websites, ads and marketing copy based on your preference. This is the first mistake you will make, just because you like it doesn’t mean everybody else will. Research is the key to finding out a little more about your prospects.
You should never take anything for granted, word of mouth alone will not be enough to keep your marketing efforts successful as much as anyone may think. Invest in other media streams to reinforce the current ones. There is no such thing as too much marketing – the quicker you learn that the better.
One of the things I see hundreds of marketers do which will shatter the chance of their business growing and being successful is thinking they cannot improve anything, even things such as the customer support of your current customers. There is always room for improvement, you could let people do a survey to find out what people think of your business – be prepared for what they have to say and act upon it.
